Senior Scholarships

The following scholarships were created by dedicated individuals, families, and/or donors to assist Crestview graduates in continuing their education at a two- or four-year college or university.

The Sara Dinsmore Scholarship was established by dedicated former CHS teacher Sara Dinsmore to assist a senior attending an Ohio college or university. Preference is given to applicants pursuing a teaching degree. In addition, the student must have exhibited a strong involvement in extracurricular activities, participation in the community, and an eagerness to help others.

The Harold and Betty Daup Family Scholarship was established by former CHS superintendent Harold Daup and his family to show their devoted commitment to education. Preference is given, but not limited, to seniors who plan to major in education and will be attending one of the following universities: Ashland, Bluffton, Baldwin Wallace, Bowling Green State, Capital, Kent State, The Ohio State, Otterbein, Toledo, or Spring Arbor U. of Michigan. The student selected must exhibit scholastic achievement, leadership abilities, and excellent character. Financial need will be considered but will not be a sole determining factor.

The Trent Family Scholarship is for a well-rounded CHS graduate who participated in both sports and the arts (band, choir, art class, or drama) all four years of high school and plans to earn a four-year bachelor’s degree. Other requirements are that the student must have exhibited excellent character and leadership skills and have participated in extracurricular or community activities.

The Mr. & Mrs. Loyd Dalton Athletic Scholarship was created to assist a CHS graduate pursuing education at a university, college, or technical school. The student must have participated in any Crestview JV/varsity programs all four years. Applicants will also be eligible if they were prevented from participating in a sport due to an athletic injury, causing them to miss up to one year of the required four years. The student must also have a minimum 2.75 GPA, exhibit a strong work ethic, and have shown outstanding leadership and sportsmanship.

The Dorothy L. Oswalt Scholarship is in memory of a woman who loved learning and working with young people. Her career in education included serving as a CHS library aide. Requirements for the scholarship are that the graduate must be pursuing a degree in education and have a minimum 3.0 GPA.

The Walker Rey Ramsay Scholarship is in memory of Walker who had a strong work ethic, a great smile, and a love for agriculture and the outdoors. Walker loved Crestview athletics, was quick to laugh, and was well liked by many. This scholarship shall go to a student who exhibits characteristics of Walker and is heavily involved in agriculture (FFA) and/or athletics and is planning to attend a two- or four-year school.

The Irene Ramsay Memorial Scholarship is given in memory of Irene who was a matriarch of the Ramsay Farms, a pillar of the Crestview community, and a resident for many years. The recipient of this scholarship should reflect the characteristics that described her: a strong work ethic, high character, and a woman of strong faith. Preference will be given to a senior who is interested in teaching, business, and/or agriculture.  Ashland University is the school of preference but is not required.

The John and Sue Murray Scholarship has been established by John and Sue Murray.  John was a long-time teacher and coach in the Crestview school system.  Sue was a Business teacher at Pioneer Career Center, where she taught many Crestview students.  This scholarship is for a Crestview graduate who plans on pursuing a two or four year degree from a college, university, or technical school.  Preference will be given, but not limited to, students seeking a vocational/technical education or training program.  The student should exhibit a strong work ethic, good character, and a desire to succeed in his/her field.

The Harmon Family Scholarship was established in 2021 in memory of Voy Lee and Mary Lou Harmon.  Voy and Mary Lou were both graduates of Savannah High School and were proud supporters of Crestview Local School students.  Voy and Mary Lou could be seen at many of the numerous programs and events over the years.  Voy served on the Crestview School Board for over 18 years and he was a Charter Member and Trustee of the Crestview Educational Foundation.  They both knew the importance of education and had a passion for assisting young men and women.  This scholarship should be awarded to a student seeking a two or four year degree, preferably at Ashland University.

The Rod Bernhard Family Scholarship was established in memory of Rod, who was a 1984 Crestview graduate and dairy farmer in the community. This scholarship should be awarded to a senior who exemplified Rod’s qualities of good character, leadership, and strong work ethic. Preference is given to, but not limited to, someone active in their community and involved in agriculture, athletics, and music or the arts. Financial need will be considered. The student should be seeking a 2- or 4-year degree at a college/university or a vocation at a technical school.

The Crestview Educational Foundation Scholarships are provided by donations to CEF with one special scholarship, named “Investing in You,” funded from staff payroll deductions. CEF scholarships will be awarded each year based on academic achievements, extracurricular participation, and involvement in community activities and projects. A minimum 2.75 GPA is required.

Teacher Grants

The purpose of these three grants is to provide financial assistance to teachers for special projects, programs, or supplies that will directly impact students’ learning. Each year one grant is made available to the Crestview buildings (elementary, middle school, and high school).
